Commodity Codes

All cargo shipments departing or entering the European Union are subject to a customs clearance procedure.

Commodity codes for the export process consist of eight numbers which in total identify a product or a group of products in international commerce.

For the import process of goods arriving into the European Union, commodity codes consist of ten numbers.

Commodity codes are crucial for this process and also in identifying how your cargo is treated, and if their are any export or import restrictions in place.

Important factors such as VAT, duty rates, excise, suspensions, preferences, intrastat and quotas, will determine the amount of money you will be charged and how the cargo will be treated when it arrives and/or leaves the United Kingdom, the European Union (EU) and third countries.
